Shirley Rosario was born in San Pedro, California, was raised in Torrance, and now lives in Downey. She was first exposed to the world of gambling when she worked at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California as a cocktail waitress. She had the opportunity to meet a lot of famous professional poker players. This was also the time when she started to develop an interest in poker. She became friends with poker giant Steve Badger while working as a waitress. He was also the one who mentored her to become skillful in playing poker.

In 2003, Shirley Rosario decided to spend her time playing online poker. This was also the time when she resigned from being a cocktail waitress in order to devote her time to poker. In 2004, she found a job as a proposition player at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California. As a proposition player, Shirley Rosario was getting paid on an hourly basis just to jumpstart a poker game or to make the game continuously active. She accepted such job because she knew that it would further hone her poker skills. It was in 2005 when she decided to become a full-fledge female professional poker player, and so she quit her job as a proposition player.

The poker game that Shirley Rosario particularly likes best is the Omaha High Low game. As a matter of fact, most of her victories were from her participation in numerous Omaha High Low events. One of her victories was winning first prize at the Legends of Poker Omaha Championship in 2005 and winning second prize at the Los Angeles Poker Classic Omaha Championship in 2003. At the Los Angeles Poker Classic Omaha Championship, this female professional poker player was defeated by poker giant Phil Hellmuth.
